Breastfeeding – the basis of healthy nutrition

Mother’s milk is the best nutrition for a baby. It contains all the important nutrients, thus contributing to the optimal development of the baby. Breastfed children are less susceptible to sicknesses and allergies to name a few advantages. Not only protein, fats and carbohydrates in the mother’s milk are adapted to the needs of the baby, but also the nursing procedure itself.  The emotional bond to the mother is fostered and all the senses are addressed.

Breastfeeding also offers the mother many advantages. The nursing hormones prolactin and oxytocin are soothing and help to calm and strengthen the mother for day-to-day life with a baby. Likewise, breastfeeding helps the womb return to normal after birth.
But do not worry if you are not able to breastfeed or do not want to. Infant formula such as Töpfer’s will give your newborn baby all the nutrients it requires for an optimal development from the first day. And emotional bonding develops when feeding the baby with a bottle.

Nature has arranged it this way

Nature has created the breasts for nursing; nevertheless, a few tips may make things easier: When nursing, the baby should always have the entire nipple with the areola in its mouth; change the nursing position frequently so that you expose different parts of the breast. Should your baby fall asleep while nursing, remove your breast from its mouth. Very important: If possible, expose your nipples to as much fresh air and sunshine as possible. And the nipple cream from Mamacare.

Look after yourself carefully

In the initial period with a baby, things do not always run the way they usually do. Do not forget your own meals – make a conscious effort to create space for yourself and your needs. If you eat regular and balanced meals, you provide a steady supply of energy and nutrients that give the mother’s milk the optimal composition for your baby.

Breastfeeding as a preventive against allergies

What you eat as a mother will turn up in the smallest amounts in your mother’s milk. In this way, your baby becomes familiar with different foods through breastfeeding and the immune system can slowly get used to them. Within the context of preventing allergies, the recommendation is therefore: Eat balanced and varied meals. A diet rich in variety helps your baby train its sense of taste. It is not recommendable to exclude certain foods as a precaution, also not to dispense with cow’s milk or eggs, which often trigger allergic reactions. There is even evidence that allergic ailments occur less frequently if mothers eat fish regularly when they are breastfeeding. The experts recommend two portions of salt-water fish a week; at least one portion should be fish with high fat content such as herring, mackerel, salmon, or sardines.
